FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – June 5, 2013  – Northwest Arkansas Center for Equality issued the following statement regarding “An Ordinance to Ensure Uniform Nondiscrimination Protections Within the City of Fayetteville for Groups Already Protected to Varying Degrees Throughout State Law.” The measure is sponsored by council members Adella Gray and Matthew Petty.

“The people of Fayetteville want to correct the historic inequalities that still exist in our community today. Their call for fairness has undeniable momentum because it’s just plain wrong that some tax paying residents don’t have the same rights as their neighbors. Our entire community embraces diversity and this ordinance ensures every citizen is protected from discrimination.

“We support this ordinance because it ensures uniform nondiscrimination protections in a balanced way. We thank council members Adella Gray and Matthew Petty for supporting the LGBTQ community and all of Fayetteville.”
