The mission of the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health is to increase access to comprehensive, effective, and affirming healthcare services for trans and gender-variant communities. The Center focuses on community mobilization to increase access to health care for transgender people; capacity building assistance for organizations delivering HIV/AIDS prevention services for transgender people; research and development of evidence-based HIV prevention interventions for transgender people; development and dissemination of transgender primary care treatment information for clinicians.
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is an interdisciplinary professional and educational organization devoted to promoting evidence-based care, education, research, advocacy, public policy, and respect in transgender health. WPATH provides opportunities for professionals from various sub-specialties to communicate with each other in the context of research and treatment of gender dysphoria including sponsoring biennial scientific symposia. WPATH publishes the Standards of Care and Ethical Guidelines, which articulate a professional consensus about the psychiatric, psychological, medical, and surgical management of gender dysphoria and help professionals understand the parameters within which they may offer assistance to those with these conditions.
